Slovakia has more than 100 castles. We’ll visit five nicest castles in Western Slovakia. One of them, castle in Bojnice, National Geographic Travel included into TOP 10 European castles. We’ll also visit the oldest Slovak town with Romanesque church from 11 th century.
The most important highlights:
Start in Bratislava and heading directly to the oldest Slovak city – Nitra, just 40 minutes from Bratislava. We will visit Nitra Castle.
The oldest preserved part of the cathedral is the Romanesque church from 11th-12th century.
After the castle tour, we will move to Oponice Chateau. The chateau built in 16th century is located in a small village Oponice; it belonged to Apponyi family, whose descendants stayed there until 1940. They were great diplomats of Austria-Hungary monarchy, and they have established one of the biggest libraries in Central Europe of their era – Bibliotheca Apponiana, You can look forward to delicious cakes and awesome Slovak wines.
After break we’ll continue visit one of the most beautiful Slovak and European castles – Bojnice Castle with its look like from a fairytale.
This castle belongs to the most visited and the most beautiful castles not only in Slovakia.
The most famous noble families owned the castle. The part of the tour is a visit of stalactite cave under the castle, reconnected with 26 m deep castle well. More than 700 years old tree, so-called King´s Matej linden of Bojnice, grows in front of the castle gates. The perimeter of this tree is 12 m. Under this tree, King Matej Corvinus organized big feasts and meetings.
We will spend the night in Bojnice town.
After breakfast we will move to the city of Trenčín just 1 hour from Bojnice. There, we will experience the tour of another famous castle. Trenčín´s Castle was built on a steep cliff. With Spiš Castle and Devín Castle, it is one of the largest castles in Europe.
It was the royal castle since 11th century and played an important role mainly in the period of attacks of Turks.
We will move to Bratislava/Vienna around noon. On our way, we will have a short visit of Beckov Castle built on 50 m high cliff. It is located just 20 minutes from Trenčín, right next to the highway to Bratislava. The dominance of the cliff attracts many people for its visiting. The first record of the castle is from the year 1200.
Arrival to Bratislava is planned on 3 pm – 4 pm. Arrival to Vienna is planned on approximately 5 pm.
